It was a full house for our three ladies football teams as they all came out victorious in their games on Wednesday evening.
Senior Ladies
Our Senior Ladies were fixed at home vs St. Pat’s (D) and were mostly dominant throughout - although the visitors did record two first half goals to leave 3 points between the sides at half time with Brigid’s leading 1-6 to 2-0 at the break.
The girls in red came out and pointed 8 times after the break with complete control of possession throughout the second half.
Another stellar performance from the Brigid’s defence saw them concede only 2 scores in the second half to finish out winners by 7 points at the final whistle.
St. Brigid’s 1-14
St. Pat’s 3-1
Adult B Team
It was drama and excitement as our second team made the trip to Stillorgan for a later throw in than usual vs Kilmacud Crokes with the visitors getting off to a sluggish start.
1-1 from Sinead Cuggy kept Brigid’s well in the game as they trailed to Crokes by 5 points at half time.
The girls were fired up for the second half with the team mounting a trojan defence to deny most of Crokes’ attempts.
At the other end of the field, Holly Brerton was causing chaos for the home side kicking 0-2 from play and 0-2 from frees as Brigid’s got a handle on the game.
Brigid’s drove on with two second half goals from Tara Brady and another goal from Sinead Cuggy straight from the penalty spot. Brigid’s holding on a 3 point lead as the game was in it’s final minutes.
But the game wasn’t over as St. Brigid’s Goalie Grace Gibbons was faced with a Crokes penalty in the dying moments - an opportunity for the Stillorgan side draw the game.
This wasn’t happening on Gibbons’ watch as she saved the penalty to maintain her clean sheet in the final play - Brigid’s winning by 3 points on the night.
