Our girls travelled to Tyrone on Saturday playing in the Division 1 Four-Wall event. Round robin doubles matches were played with Kilkenny, Tyrone, Galway and Antrim opponents. The standard of handball on display was fantastic and the girls earned a place in the final versus hosts, Greencastle.
The final was played across two doubles matches with aggregate scoring and a time limit of 15 minutes per game. A packed gallery delivered an electric atmosphere as play commenced. Narrowly behind following the first game on a scoreline of 13–15, the second game delivered excitement in spades.
St Brigid’s were in the ascendancy down the final stretch, edging ahead 15–14 when the 15-minute time limit expired! A single point deficit on aggregate saw our girls earn the runners-up medals.
Initial disappointment was soon overtaken by a huge sense of pride in the heroic performances across five matches by each of the girls as they flew the St Brigid’s flag with distinction at national level.
📍 Sunday morning – Clann Éireann, Co Armagh (Div.1 Wallball)
🎯 In the semi-final, the boys got off to a great start, winning the first game. However, their opponents responded strongly in the second game, levelling the match. On a countback, we were eliminated by the eventual winners of the tournament — a tough outcome.
👏 The sportsmanship and commitment throughout the day were clear to everyone watching. The boys’ parents and mentors were full of pride for their performance and, more importantly, the effort they had put into preparing and training over the past number of weeks.
A great deal was learned and experience gained. We are already looking forward to seeing them return stronger next year, with this year’s experiences sure to stand to them going forward.
