Dermot Earley Foróige Youth Leadership Initiative (DEYLI) pilot for Transition Year Students 2025/26
We are excited to announce that applications are now being accepted for the 2025/26 pilot Dermot Earley Foróige Youth Leadership Initiative starting on 13th November 2025.Thank you to our Award Facilitators: Vivienne Meade, Sheila Ralston, Aisling Mulligan, Ciara Geraghty & Liz Devlin.
This fantastic initiative takes its name from one of Ireland’s and Connacht's most influential leaders and greatest sporting heroes, Dermot Earley. It is aimed at 15-18 year olds. Participants must be in Transition Year & a member of St.Brigid’s GAA club. It was developed to help equip young people with the skills and qualities necessary to be good leaders, and to challenge them to use these skills to improve society. The 2025/26 programme has 3 modules and will take place in St. Brigid's GAA, Russell Park Clubhouse, Tuesdays 8pm-9.30pm (Nov 11,18,25, Dec 2,9,16, Jan 6,13,20,27, Feb 3, 10, 24, March 3, 10, 24, April 14 & 21). Block sessions Saturdays 11-2pm: Nov 15th & 22nd, Jan 10th & 24th and Drop in sessions will be scheduled on a needs basis in April: 28th , May 5th & 12th . On completion of all 3 modules, participants have the opportunity to graduate with a Foundation Certificate in Youth Leadership and Community Action, which is accredited at NFQ Level 6 and awarded by NUI Galway in Autumn Graduations 2026.
There are a limited number of places in this pilot. Places will be distributed between male and female students from different schools. This ensures a balanced mix of participants and gives everyone the chance to meet new people and make friends outside their own school. To register your interest please follow this link below and complete the application form with your TY son/daughter by Friday 7th November.
Places will be confirmed by email by Sunday 9th and Session 1 will begin on Tuesday 11th November. There is a €120 cost to participate in the DEYLI.
The optional University of Galway certificate costs approximately €300. Participating students will be facilitated to fundraise towards this fee in consultation with the club. Parental supervision will be required for any fundraising event carried out by the son/daughter.
