On Saturday, 27th June, GAA Handball President Kevin Cooke presented the prestigious Tomás O’Brien Cup to Ciara at the National Handball Centre, Croke Park. The presentation was deferred following Ciara’s victory in the U16 Girls’ All-Ireland Softball Singles Final on Sunday, 31st May.
The Tomás O’Brien Cup is awarded annually to the winner of the premier U16 Girls’ Singles grade and has been presented since 1991. In its 35-year history, this marks the first time the cup has been presented to a Dublin champion.
The cup bears the names of many distinguished past champions, and the latest engraving now proudly reads:
“Ciara Ní R, Baile Átha Cliath.”
A landmark moment for both Ciara and Dublin handball.
